Pregnant Thirst - Soul Poem by PraiseGod

Pregnant Thirst! Deep yearnings

Reminiscing how I cried as I eloped from darkness in my mother's belly,
I had thought that was the answer to my yearnings
But never was it for there was always an urge within me for a merry,
Tickles of hope blazed all around as I gazed in gripping earnings.

The breast milk never sufficed,
So soft aqua came to the rescue.
The little giants within constantly warred,
Soothing empowerment they desired as solidified matter
came hinder as at when due.

Leaping and stunting came to play,
Mama's tender care became a relay.
Age with grace came along
Fantasies of teenage rumbled and tumbled so strong.

Heights became much a desire like a burning fire,
The mire was never enough to drag the chime within me to dire.
Not enough was the yearning for fame,
Within was the mine not just for rhymes but to burn like a flame.

Passion not fashion became an anchor,
Rancor with servitude persisted along a sensor.
The winds whiled and the turbulence subsided amidst the wild,
But the proceeds of time were not enough as the inner child played along with the tide.

The poem reveals the reality of the insatiability of man's need. According to Maslow's hierarchy of needs, there are six hierarchies of man's competing needs which are in ascending order and include;

1. Psychological needs,
2. Safety and security needs,
3. Belongingness and love needs,
4. Cognitive/esteem needs,
5. Aesthetic needs and
6. Need for self actualization

The first three being deficiency needs as they are basic needs which must be satisfied for survival and the last three being growth needs which enhance a person's psychological functionality. The basic needs arise right from the womb when a child desires escape into the real world but it never ends there.

Each second of time creates a new need in us and the reality is that these needs are never satisfied up till man desires death even as a need. What an irony of life.

While we crave for the satisfaction of our various needs, we must realise that;

1. We can never satisfy our needs ourselves.

2. There are those whose basic needs are never satisfied talk less of their growth needs.

3. It is not about how smart we are nor how strong we are but the universality of the riches of God's satisfaction of needs that brings about real satisfaction in us.

4. Everyone living under the sun desire satisfaction of their daily needs, so we should never trample upon others while they strive to meet their needs rather, we should render any necessary support within our power.

5. Never take advantage of the vulnerability of those who do not have the wherewithal to satisfy their urgent needs especially the young ones.
